amaze= astound

They both mean the same= surprise

however, they tend to be used on different occassions.

'amaze' is used more commonly..- meaning that it can be used in all sort of situation.

eg: I am amazed at your work- meaning both surprised and happy- this is positive

eg: I am not amazed that your poor level of work- this is negative

amazed- used in any occassion if you want to convey...surprised, disbelief..both negative and positive feelings

astound- used sometimes but more on bigger occassions.

eg: The scenery was astounding beautiful
