at last和in the end有什么区别吗

 

1. 表示先后顺序的“最后”或用于列举事物引出“最后”一项内容时，通常只用 finally。如：

Finally he thanked them and took his leave. 最后他向他们道了谢就离开了。

He lived in Turkey, France, Norway and finally Mexico. 他曾在土耳其、法国、挪威等国住过，最后还在墨西哥住过。

First I get dressed, next I bring in the paper, then I feed the cat, and finally I fix my breakfast. 我首先穿好衣，接着就拿来报纸，然后再喂猫，最后我准备早餐。

2. 三者均可表示经过一些曲折、拖延、等候等的“最后”或“终于”，有时可换用。如：

I waited for hours and finally [at last, in the end] she arrived. 我等了几个小时，她终于到了。

I tried hard and finally [at last, in the end] I managed it. 我努力试了，并且终于成功了。

尽管三者有时可换用，但以下几点需注意：

(1) 这样用的 finally 虽然有时也用于句首，但更多的是位于句中的实义动词之前。

(2) 这样用的 at last 通常用于经过一段等候或曲折之后发生的较好的事情或期待中的结果，所以下例用法中的 in the end 最好不用 at last 代之：

They paid no attention. In the end, I couldn’t bear it. 他们置之不理，最后，我忍无可忍了。

(3)谈论将来的事情时，通常要用 in the end。如：

In the end things will mend. (谚语)船到桥头自然直。

I’m sure everything will turn out all right in the end. 我相信最后一切都会好起来的。

3. 表示完全彻底地或最后具有决定性的，通常只用 finally。如：

It’s not finally settled yet. 它还没有彻底解决。

at last 往往指经过重重困难,或指不愉快的经历后,强调为达到目的所做的努力，例如：
The war had been long and hard, but now there was peace at last.
战争是漫长和艰苦的，但是现在和平终于到来了。

3) in the end 强调事情的结局。有时可与 at last 换用，但in the end 可以用于将来时，而at last 则不能， 例如：
All will come right in the end.
到头来，一切都会好的。(这时 in the end 不可为 at last )
