“be able to”和“can”的区别？

can能表猜测，be able to不能。

can只有两种时态, 而be able to 有多种时态。

表示过去通过努力终于做成了某事要用be able to，而不能用can。

1）can、could 表示能力；可能 (过去时用could)。

只用于现在式和过去式(could).be able to可以用于各种时态。

They will be able to tell you the news soon.他很快就能告诉你消息了。

2）只用be able to 

a.位于助动词后；

b.情态动词后；

c.表示过去某时刻动作时；

d.用于句首表示条件；

e.表示成功地做了某事时，只能用was/were able to，不能用could。

He was able to flee Europe before the war broke out= He managed to flee Europe before the war broke out

can也可以用于表示“许可”，它可以表示现在许可或将来许可，过去许可用could表示，此时一律不能用be able to的某种形式替换。

两者都有“能做某事”的意思,但前者更强调通过努力之后从而能做某事,掌握某种技能

• 两者均可表示能力，有时可互换： 　　

  He can [is able to] drive. 他会开车。 　

  He was able to [could] run very fast. 他可以跑得很快。 　　

• 但两者有以下区别需注意： 　　

  (1) 表示过去一般性能力，用 could 和 was (were) able to 均可，但若表示过去特定场合的能力，则通常用 was (were) able to，而不用 could。 　　

  (2) be able to 不仅有多种时态形式(通常不用于进行时或与 be going to 连用), 而且还可以与某些情态动词连用(通常不与 can 连用), 甚至还可以有非谓语形式。

2. You might be able to persuade him. 你也许能够说服他。 　　

3. I hope to be able to do the work. 我希望能干得了这项工作。 　　

4. I regret not being able to help her. 我很遗憾未能帮助她。 　　

   以上用法中的 be able to 均不能用 can 替换。
